There was a time when many of us in radio would spend evenings turning knobs on shortwave receivers filled with glowing tubes, staining over the static to hear exotic music and news broadcast in foreign languages.

OK; so highlights from one of the "The World's Greatest Classical Music Festival" are sometimes heard over Classical 88.7-1, but never the entire annual event. Here's a fantastic front-row seat to the BBC Proms, live from Royal Albert Hall in London, as close as your computer, smartphone, or tablet. 

Here's a public radio program that brings historical perspective to the events happening around us today. On each show, renowned U.S. historians Ed Ayers, Peter Onuf, and Brian Balogh tear a topic from the headlines and plumb its historical depths.

Over the course of the hour, they are joined by fellow historians, people in the news, and callers interested in exploring the roots of what’s going on today. Together, they drill down to colonial times and earlier, revealing the connections (and disconnections) between past and present.

We air a number of PRI programs over Public Radio 89.5-1, but not all - hey, there's only 24 hours in the day. Programs of particular interest that you don't hear over our airwaves are The World, The Takeaway, and Whad'Ya Know? When you're not in the mood for something that we're airing over our six HD Radio channels, be adventurous and try some of these.
