Audit Requested of State VA

Governor Mary Fallin today requested that Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector Gary Jones conduct an operational audit of the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA).  The request (see attached letter) comes following the announced resignation of ODVA Executive Director Martha Spear. It is Governor Fallin’s policy to request an audit following the resignation of an agency head in order to help the transition to new leadership and to highlight possible areas of improvement.

Governor to Make Major Speech in Tulsa Next Week

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Gov. Mary Fallin plans to make a State of the State address next week to business leaders in Tulsa.

The governor scheduled the address for noon Tuesday at the Tulsa Convention Center.

Fallin will make the address two months after the Oklahoma Legislature declined to back her plan to cut the state's income tax. The governor told The Associated Press in an interview afterward that she believes lobbying swayed some lawmakers away from eliminating tax credits and exemptions to pay for the income tax cut.

Governor Fallin Named to Governors Association Leadership Post

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin today was named vice chair of the National Governors Association during the closing session of the annual NGA meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia.  Fallin previously served on the NGA Executive Committee. Delaware Gov. Jack Markell was named NGA chairman. Fallin is a Republican and Markell is a Democrat; the chair and vice-chair rotate political parties each year.

Fallin is the first NGA vice chair from Oklahoma and the first Republican woman to serve as vice chair. She is the third woman of either party to hold the position.

Bridge Bill Signed by Governor

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Gov. Mary Fallin has signed transportation legislation that will increase funding for repairing the state roads and structurally deficient bridges.

Fallin signed the legislation Monday at a state Capitol ceremony attended by lawmakers, Department of Transportation officials and private engineering firms who will be involved in the projects.

Among other things, the measure provides enough funding for the Transportation Department to carry out Fallin's plan to repair or replace all 706 structurally deficient bridges on the state highway system by 2019.
