Oklahoma City, OK – Honor flights planned for WWII vets in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Hundreds of World War II veterans from across Oklahoma will be taken on charter flights to Washington, D.C. to view the war memorials in the U.S. capital.

Gov. Mary Fallin joined state lawmakers and World War II veterans Monday to solicit support for the Oklahoma Honor Flights program.

The program raises private funds to transport World War II-era veterans for a day trip to Washington. The inaugural flight took place last year.

Pawhuska, OK – Osage County tables vote on wind energy proposal

PAWHUSKA, Okla. (AP) Osage County commissioners have tabled a vote on an ordinance that would regulate proposed wind farms in the area.

The Tulsa World reports the commissioners took the action Monday on the wind energy ordinance, which has been criticized the conservationists, tribal leaders and others.

Developers have proposed building two 150-megawatt wind farms on vast private ranches east of Pawhuska, near the Nature Conservancy's Tallgrass Prairie Preserve.

Tulsa, OK – 3 killed in motorcycle collision on Oklahoma road

OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) Authorities say three people were killed when two motorcycles collided on an Okmulgee County road.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 20-year-old Bixby resident Shane Reed, 20-year-old Beggs resident Travis Flud and 17-year-old Kali Hull of Tulsa all died of massive injuries at the scene of the accident about 7:02 a.m. Sunday on Adams Road.

Tulsa, OK – Law enforcers had the production of methamphetamine under control in the state, but with new "shake and bake" manufacturing methods there has been a literal explosion of labs in the Tulsa area.

Tulsa Fire Department spokesman Tim Smallwood says the illegal labs are keeping the department's Hazardous Materials unit very busy.

Last week, two fires were started by meth lab explosions.

Tulsa, OK – Nearly one out of four Oklahomans live in poverty. The Bridges Out of Poverty Program is designed to help end the cycle. The program's Monica Bynes say sometimes there is a disconnect between social agencies and those needing help.

She says often teachers feel poverty stricken parents don't put a value on education, but that is not the case. She says the parents lack the resources to be involved, like taking off work for parent-teacher conferences.

Tulsa, OK – With March madness moving on to its next stop, Tulsa says good-bye. The three day event pumped an estimated 15-million dollars into our economy. Mayor Bartlett hopes those who visited Tulsa will be back.

Mayor Bartlett says the city left a good impression with the visitors and he hopes the tournament will be back to the BOK.
