Tulsa, OK – The City of Tulsa's sales tax collections for mid-August to mid-September, as reported by the Oklahoma Tax Commission, are above last year's totals for the same period and above the budget estimate for the month.
Actual tax received is $17,103,619, up 5.6 percent from the $16,201,499 collected during the same period last year. The conservative, projected budget estimate for the period was $15,421,000.
Tulsa, OK – Ground is broken for the new sea lion exhibit at the Tulsa Zoo. The 100-thousand gallon salt-water pool will be completed in 2012. The "Helmerich Sea Lion Cove" will feature---among other things--- improved animal holding facilities and an underwater viewing area.
Work also started on tearing out the old Sea Lion exhibit at the Tulsa Zoo.
Tulsa, OK – It will take a lot of money to rebuild the screen at the Admiral Twin Drive-in. Owner Blake Smith tells KWGS News he wants to rebuild the screen similar to the one that burned, only made out of steel rather than plywood.
Concert promoter Jon Terry says a lot of money has been donated to the cause. To date, the figure is just over $24,000. It will take nearly $250,000 to rebuild.
Tulsa, OK – The effort to change the city charter moves forward. The group Save Our City filed its petition effort with city clerk Mike Kier yesterday.
They now have 90-days to gather signatures to get their proposals on the ballot. They want to make the mayor the head of the city council, add three at large council positions and make city elections non-partisan.
