Senate Democratic Leader Sean Burrage announced today that he has decided not to seek another term in the Oklahoma State Senate. Although the Claremore Democrat would not have been term limited until 2018, Burrage said it was time to refocus his attention on his family and his legal career.
Wreckers and body shops will be busy after a rash of morning drive crashes on the roads of northeastern Oklahoma. A light freezing drizzle fell overnight. It was not enough to coat the roadways, but it was enough to cause a thin layer of glaze over the bridges, overpasses and culverts.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A Tulsa man has been jailed for allegedly using juvenile female runaways as prostitutes at an east Tulsa motel.
39-year-old Damien Wardell was jailed on complaints of human trafficking, possession of marijuana after former commission of a felony and five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Bond is set at more than $200,000.
Police say two juveniles, a male and female, were found in the hotel room Wardell was arrested in. The female juvenile was listed as a runaway.
The passage of the $918-million capital improvement project, earlier this month clears, the way for Tulsa Transit's long sought rapid transit system. Even though it has been approved by voters, Tulsa Transit Manager Bill Cartwright says it will be a lengthy process.
Cartwright says the money for the project will not be available all at once. He says it will take two-to-three years to get the bus system up and running. Cartwright says just ordering and taking delivery of the new buses will take a year-and-a-half.
Four people are dead in northeast Tulsa. Meth may be a reason.
In all, five people were shot to death on Saturday evening in a home near Pine and New Haven. Killed were Melisa and Charlie Dake, Tammy Brunson and Glenda Harper. A fifth victim is still hospitalized.
Police are looking for a lone suspect. Police speculate that meth may have been sold from the home.
For the most part, the roads are just wet this morning. However, there are extremely dangerous patches of ice on many of the bridges and overpasses. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol sent KWGS the following message this morning:

Tulsa Police are pulling out all the stops as detectives investigate the city's largest string of homicides. Four people are shot and killed in a garage near Pine and New Haven in North Tulsa. A fifth victim remains hospitalized in serious condition.
A man and a woman, believed to be in their 30s were dead at the scene. Another woman, thought to be 50ish, was Dead on Arrival at a Tulsa hospital. Another victim died after arriving at the hospital.
RUSTON, La. (AP) — Trey Watts ran for a game-high 178 yards and scored three touchdowns Saturday night and Tulsa beat Louisiana Tech 24-14. Tulsa (3-8, 2-5 Conference USA) scored first on a 6-yard run by Watts, but Louisiana Tech (4-7, 3-4) replied with a 10-yard scoring run by Blake Martin. Carl Salazar kicked a 26-yard field goal to give Tulsa a 10-7 halftime lead.
