Aerospace Lawsuit Tossed

Wichita, Kan. – WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A federal judge has tossed out an age discrimination lawsuit against The Boeing Co. and Spirit AeroSystems filed in the wake of Boeing's 2005 sale of commercial airplane operations in Kansas and Oklahoma.

U.S. District Judge Eric Melgren summarily ruled Wednesday in favor of the two aerospace giants. He found the evidence was insufficient to establish a pattern of age discrimination during the divestiture.

Oklahoma Unemployment

Oklahoma City – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Southeastern Oklahoma counties had the highest unemployment rates in the state for May while the lowest rates were found in the Oklahoma Panhandle and northwestern corner of the state.

The latest figures from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission show jobless rates of 10.7 percent in Latimer County, 10.6 percent in McCurtain County and 10.5 percent in Hughes County.

Oil Field Explosion

Kiefer, OK – 2 men burned in Okla. fuel tank explosion

KIEFER, Okla. (AP) Authorities say two men were badly burned when a fuel-storage tank they were repairing blew up in Kiefer.

Creek County Sheriff's Sgt. Charles Redfern said Wednesday the two men, who weren't immediately identified, were flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital.

Redfern says one of the men had burns over 80 percent of his body, and the other man also was badly burned. He didn't know their conditions.

Spartan Fights Graffiti

Tulsa, Okla. – A new partnership with Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology will help Tulsa address its graffiti problem. Mayor Bartlett, representatives from Spartan and City Councilor Jim Mautino held a press conference at City Hall this morning announcing that Spartan students will be volunteering to help clean up.

Oklahoma Senators' Opposition

Oklahoma City – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma labor group representatives want the state's two U.S. senators to end their opposition to a bill that would extend unemployment benefits for laid-off workers.

Sens. Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn joined other Republicans last week in opposing an extension of unemployment benefits as part of a larger tax and spending package, citing concerns about adding to the budget deficit.

KWGS Wins Awards from AP

Oklahoma City, OK – KWGS receives four citations from the Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters. Public Radio 89.5 was the only Tulsa radio station to be honored.

KWGS won a first place award for an hour long documentary produced by Brad Gibson, John Durkee and Denise Brewer dealing with the H1N1 virus and Oklahoma. The program was broadcast last November.
