Today on ST, we speak with the bestselling author of "Just My Type" and other works of wide-ranging, culturally- or historically-driven nonfiction, Simon Garfield. His new book, "On the Map: A Mind-Expanding Exploration of the Way the World Looks," is just out. It's a detailed yet accessible survey of the age-old relationship between man and map, if you will, a study of why we as human beings are (and always have been) so fixated upon mapping things.

On this edition of ST, we speak by phone with Candida Moss, a professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

Our guest for this edition of ST is Tanya Paul, the Ruth G. Hardman Curator of European Art at the Philbrook Museum of Art here in Tulsa, who tells us about "Aphrodite and the Gods of Love." It's a terrific new show that will be on view at Philbrook through May 26th.

Cartography, after all, seems to be as defining a characteristic for us (as a species) as, say, language or creativity or play.

On today's program, we listen back to a conversation from February of this year with Dr. Lenn Goodman, the Mellon Professor of Humanities and Professor of Philosophy at Vanderbilt University. At that time, Dr. Goodman was preparing to give a talk here at TU entitled "Creation and Evolution." An award-winning scholar and prolific author, Dr. Goodman's philosophical interests have mainly been in metaphysics and ethics, with special attention to Islamic and Jewish philosophical thought and their creative interactions.

The uprising in Syria continues to be a cause of great concern around the globe as fighting intensifies between rebel forces and pro-government soldiers, with much of the combat occurring in and near the ancient trading city of Aleppo, in northwestern Syria. On this installment of ST, as we listen back to an interview that first aired in late May, we offer another story of Aleppo --- and of one of Judaism's most sacred texts. Our guest is the journalist Matti Friedman, a correspondent for the Associated Press who grew up in Toronto and now lives in Jerusalem.
