Our guest on this installment of StudioTulsa is Robert Caro, the widely celebrated historian and biographer whose detailed, tirelessly researched writings have been awarded the Pulitzer Prize (twice), the National Book Critics Circle Award, the National Book Award, and the Francis Parkman Prize, among other honors. On this edition of our program, we're joined by Timothy Myers, an up-and-coming American classical-music conductor with an impressive resume and a thoughtful, articulate appreciation for music of all sorts. Myers will be the guest conductor for the next concert in the Tulsa Symphony's current --- and color-themed --- season of performances. "Red," a concert of music notable for its energy, heat, passion, and jazzy intensity, gets underway tomorrow night, Saturday the 9th, at 7:30pm at the Tulsa PAC. On the program will be works by Michael Daugherty, Mark O'Connor, and Charles Ives.

In 1901, the first-ever oil well in Tulsa (from the Creek word, "Tallasi," meaning "Old Town") was established; the city itself had been officially incorporated in 1898. In 1905, the discovery of the fabled Glenn Pool oil field occurred --- and a boom town was born. And not just any boom town, but a petroleum-driven city-on-the-go, as Tulsa's population climbed to more than 140,000 between 1901 and 1930. On this edition of ST, we revisit the pivotal decade in this remarkable growth spurt as we discuss a new exhibit at the Tulsa Historical Society (or THS).
