Wyandotte Nation Plans First Fast-Food Restaurant

Sonic

SENECA, Mo. (AP) — The Wyandotte Tribe of Oklahoma is planning to go into the fast-food business.

The Native American tribe is expected to open a Sonic Drive-in in Seneca, Mo., in October. A groundbreaking ceremony was planned for Monday.

The Joplin Globe says it will be the first Sonic owned by a Native American tribe. The fast-food restaurant will have 21 vehicle stalls and a drive-thru and is expected to employ 30 to 35 full- and part-time workers.

Kelly Carpino, CEO of the Wyandotte Tribe, says the Sonic diversifies the tribe's holdings and offers an opportunity to develop more restaurants in the future.

The tribe is based in Wyandotte, Okla., about 10 miles from Seneca.
