Oklahoma City, OK – Fallin seeks disaster declaration for winter storm
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) With damage estimates from a February storm that pounded Oklahoma topping $8.7 million, Gov. Mary Fallin is requesting a major disaster declaration.
Fallin announced Tuesday she has asked federal authorities to issue a formal declaration.
The latest request is for 16 Oklahoma counties impacted January 31 through February 5. The request would be for public assistance to Craig, Creek, Jefferson, Logan, Mayes, Nowata, Okmulgee, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Pottawatomie, Rogers, Stephens, Tulsa, Wagoner and Washington counties.
Fallin says additional counties may be added to the public assistance disaster request as more damage assessments are completed.
Fallin says initial assessments show damages of more than $8.7 million. If approved, the declaration would allow cities, towns and counties to be reimbursed for eligible infrastructure repairs and other costs associated with the snow storm.
