Wind Farms for Osage County

By Associated Press

Pawhuska, OK – Wind farms could be coming to NE Oklahoma

PAWHUSKA, Okla. (AP) Plans call for at least three wind farms to be built across the northern half of Osage County.

The Tulsa World reports that neither the plans for the wind farms nor the companies involved have been officially announced but that area landowners already are talking about the projects. County officials are working on regulations concerning the environmental and economic impact of the wind farm.

U.S. Highway 60 in the county is designated as a "scenic highway." County Commissioner Bob Jackson says it's possible the farms will be required to be set back "a considerable distance" from the highway. He's also concerned about possible damage to county roads because of construction traffic.

Jackson says the wind farms will provide "a lot of money" for landowners where the turbines will be installed.
