Guthrie, OK – Oklahoma firefighters battle grass fires

GUTHRIE, Okla. (AP) Firefighters have largely contained a grass fire that scorched grass and trees near Guthrie.

Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Michelann Ooten said late Saturday that crews were putting out hot spots in the fire, which forced the closure of State Highway 105 for hours. Several homes were damaged and area residences were evacuated.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. A Guthrie Fire Department dispatcher estimated that about a six-square-mile area burned.

Farther south in McClain County, emergency management officials secured a water tanker truck for firefighters battling a fire, and other departments were called in to help firefighters with in Rogers County.

Fires also forced the closure of Oklahoma 51 in Creek County and Interstate 44 in Cotton County for a time on Saturday.
