Wildfire Threatens Town

Cement. OK – Crews battle grass fires in western Oklahoma

CEMENT, Okla. (AP) Officials ordered the evacuation of homes in a southwest Oklahoma town as crews battled a large grass fire.

Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Keli Cain said late Thursday she didn't know how many homes were affected by the blaze approaching Medicine Park, but said many residents were asked to leave. Cain said there were no immediate reports of injuries.

Comanche County spokesman Christopher Killmer says there are reports that several homes had been damaged, but an assessment hasn't been completed. Killmer said about 5,000 acres in the area around Fort Sill and Medicine Park had burned.

Caddo County Emergency Management Director Larry McDuffey said crews doused a fire that charred about 200 acres near Cement Thursday afternoon.
