Turley, OK – Several homes are destroyed as a fast moving wall of smoke and flames sweeps through Turley, just north of Tulsa. The fire broke out near 56th and North Peoria around 2:30PM. The blaze spread northeast to near 63rd and North Utica.

The newly closed Cherokee Elementary School was turned into a first aid and cooling station for fire fighters from all over the region. National Guard helicopters picked up water from farm ponds and dumped it on the flames.

At least four fire fighters were injured, along with two other people. The temperature outside was 110 degrees as fire fighters battled the blaze. Tulsa County Sheriff's Deputies, back by the Highway Patrol and Tulsa Police closed off streets and residents in the Scottsdale Addition, near 61st and North Lewis were urged to evacuate their homes as the flames approached.

The Red Cross has a shelter at the Antioch Baptist Church for this displaced. The church is at 56th Street North and Cincinnati.
