Verdict in Murder Trial

Bartlesville, OK – Okla. man convicted of murder in fatal shooting

(Information in the following story is from: Tulsa World, http://www.tulsaworld.com)

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) A Washington County jury has convicted a Bartlesville man of first-degree murder in a fatal shooting on New Year's Eve.

The panel found Kyle Eulitt guilty Thursday in the shooting death of 22-year-old Ronald Watts. The Tulsa World reports that jurors recommended a sentence of life in prison.

Eulitt maintained that Watts also had a gun when the two began arguing at an apartment complex just after midnight Dec. 31. But several witnesses testified that they only saw Eulitt with a gun.

Defense attorney Jim Conaster argued that his client acted in self-defense.

Assistant District Attorney Jared Sigler told jurors, however, that Eulitt killed because he wanted to, not because he needed to.

Associate District Judge Russell Vaclaw has scheduled formal sentencing for Oct. 5.
