Tushka, OK – Initial damage assessment done in Oklahoma town
TUSHKA, Okla. (AP) Federal and state emergency management officials have completed their initial damage assessments in Tuskha.
State Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Michelann Ooten said Sunday the report will be promptly sent to Gov. Mary Fallin's office. Fallin then can ask the federal government for assistance for individuals and businesses affected by Friday's tornado.
The tornado killed two people in the tiny southeastern Oklahoma town, injured at least 25 others and destroyed a dozen homes and businesses.
The National Weather Service office in Norman says the tornado that hit Tushka was rated on the Enhanced Fujita scale as an EF3, with winds ranging from 136 mph to 165 mph.
The Weather Service offices in Norman and Tulsa say at least 17 tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma on Friday.
