Tulsans Seek Additional Education Funding
Tulsans turn out to voice their support for the Tulsa Public Schools. A rally was held last night at the Edison High School Field House. An estimated 600-people filled the stands as one speaker after another called for state lawmakers to appropriate more for common education.
The current budget request from the Department of Education is flat and that means, with the loss of grants, the Tulsa School District will lose some 75-teaching positions in the next year. No lay-offs are expected because the positions will be eliminated through attrition.
State Senator Gary Stanislawski of Tulsa, the Republican Floor whip in the senate, tells our Marshall Stewart that it does appear additional funding may be available for education before the session ends.
