TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Voters in Tulsa are heading to the polls Tuesday to select the city's mayor and consider more than $900 million in capital improvements.

Incumbent Dewey Bartlett faces his predecessor, Kathy Taylor, in the city's first nonpartisan mayor's race. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Along with the mayor's race, voters will be asked to extend a 1.1 percent sales tax that would generate $563.7 million over seven years. They'll also consider a $355 million bond issue to fund street and bridge repairs. Both projects are part of the "Improve Our Tulsa" capital improvement campaign.

The election is nonpartisan, though both candidates are from different political parties. Taylor carried 42 percent of the vote in the June primary while Bartlett had 34 percent.
