Tulsa Sets Homicide Record

By Associated Press/KWGS News

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa, Okla., police say boy's death a homicide

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Police say that, for the second time in three years, an infant son of a Tulsa woman has smothered to death while the mother slept.

Tulsa Police say the Nov. 5 death of the 7-month-old boy has been ruled a homicide by the state Medical Examiner's Office.

Homicide detective Sgt. Mike Huff says the father, Daniel Benson, found the boy on the sofa between the mother and the back of the sofa. The mother was asleep, and the child was not breathing, the father said.

After being transported to a Tulsa hospital, the child was pronounced dead.

Huff said that, in 2006, the mother, Shemirah Benson was reportedly asleep on a couch when her 3-month-old was found not breathing between her and the back of the couch. That child was also pronounced dead.
