Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's show, we speak with our colleague Steve Clem, who's the Operations Director here at Public Radio Tulsa. Steve tells us all about an original radio-documentary that he has written and produced called "Tulsa's Top 40 Legend, KAKC: The Big 97." Part One of this two-part retrospective airs tonight (Friday the 3rd) at 8pm on KWGS HD-1 89.5 FM. As Steve explains, from the mid-1950s through the mid-1970s, KAKC 970 AM was **the** radio station for teenagers and other youngsters in Tulsa. It was the station where --- locally, at least --- rock-n-roll first took root and flourished. And it was a station that engaged the greater Tulsa community (not just the kids, that is) and held audiences (in terms of ratings) as few stations ever do.
