Tulsa Man Drowns in Flint Creek

WEST SILOAM SPRINGS, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say a Tulsa man has drowned in a creek in northeastern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission says 28-year-old Nelson Vasquez was playing around in 5 feet to 8 feet of water in Flint Creek about 1 p.m. Wednesday when he went under the water.

Officials say other swimmers recovered him 10 minutes to 20 minutes after he didn't resurface and attempted to revive him.

Paramedics arrived and transported Vasquez to a Siloam Springs, Ark., hospital. He was pronounced dead about 2:10 p.m.

Commission officials say Vasquez wasn't using a personal flotation device.

At least five people have drowned in Oklahoma waterways since June 30.
