Tulsa, OK – Mayor Dewey Bartlett announced today that Mark Sipe will fill the appointment as Fire Marshal for the City of Tulsa. Sipe has over twenty years of experience with the Tulsa Fire Department and served as District Chief in Emergency Operations prior to this appointment.
The Fire Marshal is responsible for planning, organizing and safely implementing department activities related to fire prevention, fire investigation and the regulation of hazardous materials. Some examples of duties are: enforcing ordinances, statutes and regulatory requirements relating to fire protection, developing appropriate programs for fire safety, public fire education, hazardous materials and arson suppression, as well as investigation of fires and the prosecution of arson.
"We're glad to have Chief Sipe step up to this critical position with the Fire Department," Fire Chief Allen LaCroix said. "Mark understands the importance of balancing code requirements with the needs of businesses and growing our community - a necessity as Fire Marshal."
Sipe graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1984 and joined the Tulsa Fire Department in January of 1987. Sipe is a member of the Oklahoma Task Force 1 - Urban Search and Rescue Team and has also completed two years of the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy in Emittsburg, Maryland.
