Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's program, we hear from David Cook, a professor of theatre here at the University of Tulsa. He's directing the TU Theatre Department's new production of "A Streetcar Named Desire," which runs in Kendall Hall's Chapman Theater from tonight (the 15th) through Sunday afternoon (the 18th). The steamy, intense Tennessee Williams classic won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1947; the immortal film version, starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh, was first released in 1951. As Cook tells our host Rich Fisher on today's program, the brilliant features of "Streetcar" are many, and are well-known --- but, at its core, what makes this play a masterpiece is its language. As Cook notes, it's surely "one of the most poetic plays in American drama --- the language is just beautiful . . . all the way through, much like with Shakespeare."
