Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma trooper charged with misdemeanor assault

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma County prosecutors have charged an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper who is accused of kicking a handcuffed man.

A misdemeanor assault and battery count was filed Wednesday against Mitch Nelson for allegedly kicking Adam Barr in the groin while Barr he was on the ground face down following a Feb. 10, 2010, car chase.

According to an affidavit, Barr was in the back of a Moore patrol car when he managed to steal the vehicle and lead officers on a pursuit. The car eventually crashed.

In the affidavit, Moore Police Lt. Rodney Tompkins says Nelson asked if any officers' dashboard cameras were recording and was told they were and that a helicopter was flying overhead. After the helicopter left, Tompkins says Nelson kicked Barr.

Nelson couldn't be reached for comment.
