Wewoka, OK – Okla. landfill supplying energy to brick kilns

WEWOKA, Okla. (AP) An Oklahoma brick company is using a unique source of energy to heat its kilns methane gas from a nearby landfill.

The Oklahoman reports that Commercial Brick Corp. in Wewoka is drawing methane from the WCA Waste Corp. landfill that is about a quarter-mile from the business.

Methane at the Sooner Landfill is collected through 14 vertical wells drilled into the buried trash. Methane is the primary component in natural gas.

Family-owned Commercial Brick says the landfill gas is cheaper than that from traditional sources.
