TPD Officer Charged with Bribes and Drugs

A Tulsa police officer was charged with five felony counts today, including two counts for receiving bribes.

The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office charged Tyrone Jenkins, 40, with taking a total of $3,100 in bribes from an individual who was a part of a “sting” operation by the Tulsa Police Department.  Jenkins also is charged with two counts of violating the Computer Crimes Act and one count of Attempted Intent to Deliver an Illegal Narcotic.

“The circumstance of charging a law enforcement officer who is sworn to uphold the law is disappointing on many levels,” said First Assistant District Attorney Doug Drummond.  “But at the same time, whether a person is a law enforcement officer or not, he must be held accountable under the law.”

Drummond said the charges came after a Tulsa Police investigation culminated in a “sting” operation. Jenkins is accused of receiving payments of $2,300 on March 4 and $800 on March 17 in exchange for the officer’s agreement to provide confidential information from a Tulsa police computer database. In addition, prosecutors allege that Jenkins attempted to deliver cocaine.
