Westville, OK – Tornado causes damage in NE Oklahoma; no injuries

WESTVILLE, Okla. (AP) A tornado that killed three people in northwest Arkansas started in Oklahoma, where authorities say it caused damage but no injuries.

The National Weather Service says the tornado formed around 6 a.m. Friday near Westville, three miles west of the Arkansas state line, before hitting the tiny town of Cincinnati, Ark.

Michelann Ooten, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, says initial reports from Westville indicate the storm knocked down power poles and damaged some homes, although it's not yet known how many.

Ooten says emergency managers in the area are performing damage assessments. A phone message left with Adair County's emergency management office Friday morning wasn't immediately returned.

Weather service meteorologist Joe Sellers in Tulsa says December tornadoes are unusual "but not out of the norm."
