Thieves Steal Miss Oklahoma's Crown, other items

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Someone has stolen the pageant crown and other items from the reigning Miss Oklahoma.

Police say the items were taken April 22 from the backseat of Betty Thompson's car as she was moving to Stillwater. The vehicle was open and unattended as she and her family carried her belongings up to her apartment.

Her family waited to see if the items were taken as a prank or would be returned before reporting the theft several days later.

Thompson won Miss Oklahoma in June and was first runner-up in the Miss America pageant in January.

Miss Oklahoma Pageant executive director Kay Alexander says the organization has sent Thompson a replacement crown to wear at Miss Oklahoma events.
