Tahlequah Electric Substation Hit by Vandal
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) — Authorities are searching for whoever caused $1 million in damage to an electricity substation in Tahlequah.
Lake Region Electric Cooperative says its substation on Mud Valley Road sustained serious damage this week.
The company's CEO says someone using a high-powered rifle fired on the substation and two breakers Wednesday.
That knocked out electricity to about 2,000 customers. Power was restored within two hours.
The utility says its power supplier is bringing in a mobile substation until the damaged transformer can be replaced. The CEO tells the Tahlequah Daily Press that the "prank" caused damage of about $1 million.
Anyone with information is asked to call police or Lake Regional Electric Cooperative.
