Tulsa, OK – Mayor Dewey Bartlett provided an update of the City of Tulsa's Sustainability program Monday, November 22, 2010. The news conference was held at OSU Medical Center, the site of one of six projects included in the $3.8 million City of Tulsa federal Energy Grant.

Jan Slater, CEO of OSU Medical Center, and members of the Center's administrative team were on hand to discuss the OSU Project, a $1.5 million retrofit of equipment and utility management software. The project included the installation of new lights for six hospital surgical suites, two new hot water boilers and improvements to the facility's HVAC systems.

"We are excited to be moving ahead with city sustainability efforts thanks to this grant from the Department of Energy," said Mayor Dewey Bartlett. "I'm so pleased to announce that the OSU Medical Center retrofit project is underway, and to provide updates on two more projects included in this large grant, the City's Sustainability Plan and a Lighting and Signal update for downtown Tulsa.

"There is so much potential for renewable energy use in Tulsa, as well as for more efficient systems that save taxpayers' money. In addition, these programs complement the recently completed and approved PLANiTULSA comprehensive plan. Each project moves us forward toward a more sustainable Tulsa."

Bartlett noted that bids from several consultants have been received for the development of the first-ever Sustainability Plan for the City of Tulsa. The winning bid will be announced early in December. In addition, new equipment has been ordered for the Pedestrian and Traffic Lighting project in Downtown Tulsa. Installation will begin as soon as it arrives.
