Summer Heat

Tulsa, Ok – Heat sets records in Oklahoma City, Tulsa

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The searing heat has set temperature records in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

The National Weather Service says the mercury peaked at 108 degrees in Oklahoma City on Thursday, breaking a record set in 1996 of 106 degrees.

Up the turnpike in Tulsa, a record high temperature of 104 degrees was set on Thursday. Forecasters say the old record high for July 7 was 103 degrees back in 1917.

As hot as those temperatures were, they weren't the hottest recorded in the state.

According to the weather service, daytime highs ranged from about 97 degrees in Bartlesville to 110 degrees in Altus. The hottest temperatures were reported in western Oklahoma.

Forecasters say there will be a slight chance for storms, mainly in southern Oklahoma, on Friday.
