Student Worries About Diploma

By Associated Press

Sperry, OK – Vietnamese student in Okla. worries about diploma

SPERRY, Okla. (AP) The stand-in parents of a Vietnamese exchange student say they're worried that Oanh Kim Pham's $8,000 annual college scholarship could be endangered if she's unable to get a high school diploma.

A Sperry School District official says he never promised Pham known as "Annie" to friends and her exchange family that she could graduate.

The scholarship that Annie has been awarded is to attend Oklahoma State University. But Perry Newman of Sperry, whose family is her host during her stay in the United States, said last week that failure to get a Sperry diploma could affect the amount of Annie's scholarship.

The issue could be decided at a school board meeting in May.
