Storms Leave Damage in Tulsa County

KWGS Listener

Severe thunderstorms leave damage across parts of Tulsa County. It appears the Bixby area was the hardest hit by straight line winds.

Trees were toppled, trash cans  and lawn furniture were overturned by winds up to 65-miles per hour. A fireworks stand at 101st and South Memorial was blown into the side of the Whataburger Drive-in and a light pole was toppled.

The high winds also knocked out power to a lot of people. The Public Service Company of Oklahoma's Stan Whiteford says, at one point, they had near 15,000 customers off line. By daybreak, that number had been whittled to 9,500.
