Tulsa, Oklahoma – Today, we discuss the work of the great Stephen Sondheim, who recently turned 80. For this discussion, we welcome Frank Rich, the award-winning New York Times columnist who previously, for more than a dozen years, served as that newspaper's drama critic. Mr. Rich will appear with Mr. Sondheim here in Tulsa this evening (Monday the 19th) at the Reynolds Center on the TU campus. This event is free to the public; it begins at 7:30pm --- and it's presented as part of the Presidential Lecture Series, sponsored by the Darcy O'Brien Endowed Chair. Mr. Rich and Mr. Sondheim will be chatting onstage about the latter's lengthy and remarkable --- and highly influential --- career as a creator of Broadway musicals. They'll also talk about the art and the craft of the Broadway musical more generally. As Mr. Rich tells us on today's edition of StudioTulsa, he and Mr. Sondheim have actually appeared jointly at several of these "staged conversation" events at venues across the country over the last five years or so. We also speak with Mr. Rich about his work as an op-ed columnist; his column appears in the Week in Review section of The New York Times every Sunday.
