State Prison Escapee Recaptured in Tulsa

Department of Corrections

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — State prison officials say an escapee from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester has been recaptured in Tulsa.

Chief of Security Rick Caywood told the McAlester News-CapitalFriday that 27-year-old Kenneth Hammick II was found and arrested late Thursday afternoon. Caywood says investigators are still trying to determine who gave Hammick a ride to Tulsa — about 90 miles north of McAlester.

Caywood says Hammick disappeared Thursday sometime between the 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. head count of inmates. Details of how he's believed to have escaped have not been released.

The Department of Corrections Web site shows Hammick was serving a four-year sentence for a 2011 drug conviction in Cherokee County. He now faces a felony escape charge in Pittsburg County.
