SQ-744 Logo Battle

By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma want supporters of State Question 744 to stop using the logos of two schools in a campaign advertisement.

The proposed constitutional amendment would require the state within three years to meet the regional average of per-student spending in surrounding states.

In an ad promoting the proposal, families are shown watching a game on television. One is wearing OU's colors while the other is wearing OSU gear.

Officials at the two universities say that as state entities, they cannot take a position in a political debate. OSU spokesman Gary Shutt tells The Oklahoman the ads could make it appear that the universities support the proposal. He says SQ 744 supporters never asked permission to use the logos.

The group argues that it does not need permission to use the logos.
