Skiatook Schools Grand Jury

Skiatook, OK – Signatures enough to convene Okla. panel for probe

SKIATOOK, Okla. (AP) Tulsa County authorities say petitions seeking an investigation of spending by the Skiatook School District had enough signatures to require a judge to convene a grand jury.

The Tulsa County Election Board on Friday verified that the petitions turned in by district patron Jason Willingham had far more than the 5,000 signatures of registered voters required by law to call a grand jury.

Court records filed by Election Board Secretary Patricia Brown Bryant said that, of 7,700 signatures submitted on 445 pages of petitions, 6,404 signatures were deemed valid.

A state auditor's report released in March said the district paid an Oklahoma City vendor $570,000 more than it would have paid if it had bought custodial supplies and security equipment directly.
