Skiatook, OK – President of Skiatook school board resigns
SKIATOOK, Okla. (AP) The president of the Skiatook School Board has announced his resignation.
Friday's resignation of Kenneth Cooper comes three days after a grand jury indicted the school's former superintendent and said Cooper should be removed from office.
Cooper said in a prepared statement to the Tulsa World that he hopes his resignation will help the community heal. He says he was shocked by the allegations against former Superintendent Gary Johnson.
Johnson was indicted for embezzlement and bribery after a state audit found the school paid a middleman $570,000 more than it would have paid for custodial supplies and security equipment had it bought them directly.
Johnson's attorney said he will plead not guilty. Cooper is not charged.
