Senate Panel to discuss Oklahoma Pension Changes

KWGS File photo

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Changes to the state retirement systems for public safety workers, teachers and state workers will be discussed during an interim legislative study of the Senate Pension Committee.

The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday at the state Capitol. The directors of the retirement systems for public employees, state troopers and firefighters all are scheduled to testify, along with state Treasurer Ken Miller and others.

Among the top priorities for some Republican leaders next year is a push to end the traditional pension for newly hired state workers. The governor and GOP leaders in the House and Senate are pushing for a switch to a 401k-style retirement account, along with a consolidation of the administration for several of the pension systems.
