Bartlesville, OK – Bartlesville district may close elementary school

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) Bartlesville school officials say cuts in state funding has led them to discuss possibly closing an elementary school.

A letter sent to parents on Wednesday says the school board will discuss closing Oak Park Elementary School during a meeting Thursday. The letter from Superintendent Gary Quinn, Principal Ken Copeland and the director of elementary operations Dianne Martinez says the board will not vote on the issue until an April 18 meeting.

The letter says the district has had state funding cut by about $1.4 million in recent years and expects funding next year to be about $2.4 million lower than this year.

It says the district can save about $600,000 by closing Oak Park and moving students into three recently renovated elementary schools.
