Boynton, OK – Future of Boynton-Moton School District questioned
BOYNTON, Okla. (AP) The future of an eastern Oklahoma school district is in question because of budget cuts.
Boynton-Moton Superintendent Shelbie Williams said during a special board meeting Monday that state funding has been cut by $100,000. Williams says the district has cut salaries and services but still has a stack of unpaid bills.
And board member Joe Cherry has expressed doubts that the district can survive until the end of the year.
The district's child nutrition fund and its academic and attendance records were checked earlier this month by state Department of Education officials. State Superintendent Sandy Garrett said then that more auditors might be called and said the state was trying to determine if the school has money to finish the year.
