Sand Springs, OK – request to operate lockup for Okla. juveniles

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The state Office of Juvenile Affairs is considering five proposals from private groups to provide a maximum-security lockup for juvenile offenders.

OJA plans to close the L.E. Rader Center in Sand Springs within two years. The center is the only maximum-security juvenile center.

Locations discussed for a possible facility include Ada, Custer City, Clinton, Hennessey and Wakita. Requests were submitted by Avalon Correctional Services, the city of Clinton, Chickasha-based CMSWillowbrook, the Ada Jobs Foundation and by Custer City.

The OJA's request for proposals says it will have about $10 million to spend each year. The request says the facility must be fully staffed and operational by July 1, 2012.
