Oklahoma City, OK – State's 2 largest school districts go on probation

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The state's education board has placed Oklahoma's two largest school districts on probation as part of the accrediting process for the upcoming school year.

The board voted unanimously Thursday on accreditation recommendations for the state's 533 school districts. The Tulsa and Oklahoma City districts were "accredited with probation," the most serious status short of losing accreditation.

The board cited problems with a handful of schools in each district that are in violation of either federal or state education regulations, or both.

State Education Department officials say it's not likely either district would lose accreditation if the districts continue to work to come into compliance with those regulations.

The Butner school district in Seminole County is the only other district placed on probation.
