Tonkawa, OK – Tonkawa postmaster sentenced after plea to theft
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A judge ordered a former Tonkawa postmaster to serve 180 days of home confinement after residents vouched for her character despite her guilty plea to stealing cash from selling stamps.
U.S. District Judge Stephen P. Frilot on Wednesday also ordered 42-year-old Divina M. Love to five years probation and to pay more $9,367 in restitution, plus a $10,000 fine. Love must also perform 1,000 hours of community service.
About two dozen Tonkawa residents wrote letters in support of Love.
Fire Chief Kirk Henderson praised Love for single-handedly creating a master street and address list for Tonkawa's 911 system. Tonkawa Police Chief Dark Scott also wrote in her support.
Love was Tonkawa postmaster from 1998 through 2009.
