Tulsa, OK – Man pleads no contest in fatal Brookside assault

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A 26-year-old Tulsa man charged with two murders and five other felonies in connection with a 2008 vehicle assault has pleaded no contest.

Andrew Allen Mathis entered the pleas Wednesday in Tulsa County District Court. Judge Kurt Glassco accepted the pleas and found Mathis guilty of all seven counts.

Mathis had no plea agreement with prosecutors and will be sentenced on July 21. The punishment options for first-degree murder are life in prison or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors have alleged Mathis intentionally plowed into a crowd in Tulsa's Brookside entertainment district on Nov. 1, 2008, killing 30-year-old Carlos F. Lopez Jr. of Midland, Texas, and 38-year-old Dennis L. Cox of Kimberling City, Mo. and injuring five others.
