Owasso, OK – NTSB releases prelim report on Okla. plane crash

OWASSO, Okla. (AP) A preliminary report on a plane crash that killed three near the Owasso airport says the aircraft was in a spin when it went down.

The National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report issued Tuesday says witnesses reported the plane turning left and in a spin as it lost altitude.

The plane crashed shortly after 8 p.m. on July 11 while approaching Gundy's Airport in Owasso. Pilot Richard Shimer of Owasso and passengers Lonnie Hardin and Joseph Provenzano of Tulsa were killed.

The NTSB report says there were no reported emergency or distress calls from the pilot.

A probable cause of the crash won't be available for several months.
