Plane Crash Kills One

By AP

Guthrie, OK – Guthrie plane crash victims identified by troopers

GUTHRIE, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released the names of a man who was killed and two others who were injured in a plane crash near Guthrie.

Trooper Betsy Randolph says 62-year-old pilot Darrell Allen Smittle was dead at the scene and his 41-year-old son Darrell Stewart Smittle is hospitalized in serious condition. Randolph says 11-year-old Joshua Smittle was also injured and hospitalized in fair condition.

Randolph says Joshua Smittle told troopers the older Smittle was his grandfather and the other passenger his uncle.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the single-engine Piper Cherokee crashed in a residential area about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. No one on the ground was injured.

Randolph says it appears the plane became tangled in power lines before crashing.
