Plane Crash at Collinsville

By Associated Press

Collinsville, OK – 2 dead as small plane crashes northern Tulsa Cty.

COLLINSVILLE, Okla. (AP) Authorities say two people have died in the crash of a small plane near a tiny airstrip in northern Tulsa County.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. George Brown says the crash occurred just before 10 a.m. Saturday near Airman Acres, a dirt airstrip. Brown says the plane took off heading south and witnesses soon heard an engine stall.

Brown says the pilot banked left in an apparent attempt to land at Airman Acres, but the plane instead crashed in a field east of the airstrip. He says it landed wingfirst and spun around before the cockpit caught fire.

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the plane was an RV-4. The manufacturer's Web site says the plane is constructed from a kit.

Brown says a man and a woman died in the crash but their identities have not yet been released.
