First winning the 2008 German Music Competition a distinction no pianist had earned for 14 years, Alexander Schimpf traveled the following year to Austria where he won the International Beethoven Competition and in 2011 to New York City’s Carnegie Hall, and to Ohio, where he picked up the prestigious Cleveland International Piano Competition.
The young German pianist made his debut at Armstrong Auditorium in Edmond, Oklahoma on Monday, February 4th in a recital featuring the Sonata in E-flat, K282 by Mozart, Book II of Images and L'isle joyeuse by Claude Debussy, selections from 24 Preludes in Jazz Style Op 53 by Nikolai Kapustin and Maurice Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin. Alexander speaks to host and producer Kimberly Powell about the recital and his new life as a touring pianist.
