Tampa, FL – Hall of Fame defensive end Lee Roy Selmon dies

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) The family of NFL Hall of Fame defensive end Lee Roy Selmon says he has died in Florida after suffering a stroke. He was 56.

A statement released on behalf of his wife, Claybra Selmon, says he died Sunday at a Tampa hospital surrounded by family members.

His former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, confirmed Saturday that he suffered a stroke.

Players for South Florida's football team, where Selmon had served as athletic director, wore his old jersey number on their helmets during Saturday's upset win over Number 16 Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
